A NEW movie has surfaced apparently showing screen legend Marilyn Monroe smoking marijuana at an intimate get-together with pals.

The film - taken at a private home in New Jersey, US, in 1958 or 1959 - was recently purchased for $300,000 by collector Keya Morgan.

At one point Monroe is passed a cigarette and takes a puff. The person behind the camera, who wanted to remain anonymous, confirmed the cigarette contained marijuana.

He said: "I got it (the pot). It was mine. It was just passed around.

"It was not a party. It was just a get-together. You know, come over and hang out."

Morgan is also working on a documentary on Monroe's death in 1962.

"This is a personal side of her we've never seen before," he said. "People have never seen her in such a relaxed pose."
